Why I Give Week

The KSU Student Foundation hosts Why I Give Week, a celebration of philanthropy. This year it was September 30-October 4. We created a whole week of activities to spotlight the importance of philanthropy at K-State! Students visited our booth at the Student Union or Bosco Plaza (weather permitting).

During this week, we educated students on how philanthropy affects their everyday lives and thanked donors for making the K-State learning experience possible. Our five daily themes treasure, thanks, talent, time, and testimony, allowed us to focus on a different aspect of philanthropy for each day of the week. Join us at the Why I Give Week table on Bosco Plaza during Fall 2020 with dates TBD.

Monday: Treasure

On Monday, we focus on educating students on the impact made by financial contributions from generous donors to Kansas State University. A flag display in the quad represents total dollars given and scholarships funded through donors’ gifts. Banners located outside prominent campus buildings supported by private gifts inform students how donations directly impact student life.

Tuesday:  Thanks

Students can come by our table to help us thank generous donors and trustees for supporting our educational experiences. For each thank you note written, students receive a delicious cookie. In the evening, join us for our Give Back Chat event. Hear from a trustee and attend breakout sessions focusing on how to give your talents through volunteering, budget for philanthropic giving, and get involved in K-State’s largest student-run philanthropy, K-State Proud.

Wednesday: Talent

What can you give? Come share your talents with us! Not all philanthropic gifts are financial. Students can brainstorm what special talents they possess to use across campus or in their communities to make an impact. Stop by to get a Why I Give Week sticker for your laptop, water bottle, or notebook!

Thursday: Time

Engage in random acts of kindness to learn the value of time. At our table, students can grab a slip with an act of kindness to perform to give back to others on campus. As an incentive, we have treats! Our hope is for also for students to brainstorm ideas of service-based organizations they can donate their time to and contribute meaningful work.

Friday: Testimony

On the final day of the week, students can share why they give by writing “whiteboard testimonies.” For added fun, come make an ice cream sundae to celebrate the end of the week and the importance of philanthropy. We would love to sweeten your day!

Use #WhyIGive throughout the week to start the discussion and share your photos with us. We can’t wait to celebrate philanthropy with you!
