Reasons to give
Find out more about why the College of Architecture, Planning & Design needs your support and what funding areas are a priority now:
Curriculum
The College of Architecture, Planning & Design utilizes a dynamic curriculum to prepare our students for a multitude of job opportunities. We are committed to providing a progressive and unique curriculum that puts us ahead of our peers in design education. We do much more than provide our students with the base competencies to succeed in their chosen profession; we equip them with the knowledge to expand the periphery of traditional design practice. Our degree structure — offering master's degrees at the end of a five-year, research-based professional curricula — uses a large amount of resources and can be considered costly when compared to the average four-year program. International travel and internships that improve our knowledge of design are also necessary to keep us moving into the future. By establishing a scholarship, you are investing in the education of our deserving students.
Facilities
The state of the College of Architecture, Planning & Design’s physical facilities — our studios, offices and classrooms — has become an urgent concern. Seaton Hall should be a 21st-century facility that reflects our values and serves as a symbol of our belief in the enriching potency of design, our dedication to preserving our historical heritage, and our commitment to the stewardship of the environment. This urgent concern is being addressed by a $75 million revitalization and expansion project that will be completed by fall 2017. The newly renovated and expanded Seaton Complex will offer a more effective setting for collaborative study and applied research, with improved security and technology. It will also advance Kansas State University's vision to become a Top 50 public research university by 2025. Investment from college alumni and friends in this important project will enable our faculty to better prepare our students for their future careers.
Program Support
In order to continue to work toward a fully interdisciplinary, experience-based design education, we need additional support to facilitate collaboration. Facilities, faculty members and staff are needed in larger, outlying communities where service learning can take place. They must be sustained so that our new students can depend on those experiences as part of their education. Providing funding to support these service-learning opportunities will ensure that our design students are going out into society prepared to make a difference.
