K-State couple continues their long support of the university with gift to new welcome center

Virginia and Perry Peine truly have supported nearly every college, program and activity at K-State. Now they’re adding the new Berney Family Welcome Center to that long list by contributing to the Career and Employment Services area of the new welcome center, located in the east side of Memorial Stadium. The southwest gate leading into campus off of 17th Street, by the welcome center, was also contributed by the Peines.
“We think the welcome center in the old stadium is a nice idea,” said the Peines. “It is a good location and will serve the university well. We also like its proximity to the Peine Gate.”
The Peines grew up in Manhattan and met in the fifth grade at the former Eugene Field Elementary School. Their relationship continued at K-State, where the couple got engaged. Perry graduated in 1943 with a degree in civil engineering, and Virginia received her home economics education degree in 1944. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on June 8, 2015.
