Helping others realize their potential inspires couple to create scholarship

Doug Nelson came to K-State as part of the track team and left prepared to go on to medical school and a career as a physician. He credits his track coach, Mike Ross, and his chemistry professor, Dr. Herbert Moser, with instilling a desire for excellence in all his activities.

“K-State is a great university which helped me achieve my career goals,” Nelson said. “My wife, Dana, and I feel it is important to give back and share the wonderful opportunities of an education from K-State. Most of all we hope to help others realize their true potential, given their talents and abilities.”

The Nelsons have established the Doug Nelson Chemistry Scholarship which is awarded to undergraduate students in the Department of Chemistry who have excelled in organic chemistry classes at K-State.

“There is nothing more important than investing in education: for the individual, for our university and for society in general,” Nelson said. “By establishing this scholarship, we feel fortunate to join a legacy of generosity by other K-State alumni.”
