Millick family honors Leslie F. and Romaine Dodds Millick with entrepreneurship scholarship
Melody Millick Aldrich, Overland Park, Kansas, has made a gift to the KSU Foundation to establish the Leslie F. Millick and Romaine Dodds Millick Memorial Scholarship.
The Millick family created this scholarship to honor the lives of their parents, Leslie F. Millick and Romaine Dodds Millick and their dedication to the Onaga community and surrounding area. This scholarship has a preference toward graduates of Onaga or Centralia High School who are minoring in the entrepreneurship program.
Millick Aldrich is a 1978 graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in social sciences. Her husband, David Aldrich, is a 1970 graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in business.
Leslie and Romaine Millick were entrepreneurs and operated their business, Millick Electric, for 40 years in Onaga. Leslie and Romaine Millick were known for actively supporting their community with involvement in their church and organizations like the Order of the Eastern Star, Masons and the American Legion. Leslie F. Millick was also a WWII Army veteran.
“My parents were the epitome of the salt of the earth kind of people we see in towns across Kansas,” Millick Aldrich said. “They were wonderful parents and grandparents. This gift of the scholarship honors my parents and also honors my alma mater. It lets others know of our belief that we should be giving to others, an example set by my parents.”
This year’s recipients include senior in communications science, Jocelyn Marten, and senior in education, Raegan Hermreck.
“I am incredibly honored to be a recipient of this scholarship,” Hermreck said. “It is even more special knowing the Millick family chose people from their hometown to support by providing a scholarship.”
