Building Success

K-State alumni invest in Seaton Complex.

Kipp Shrack ’68 remembers when K-State’s landscape architecture program moved out of Waters Hall into the Seaton Complex. He recalls enjoying time in the building, collaborating on projects with his fellow students.

So when the Seaton Complex revitalization and expansion began in 2015, Kipp and his wife, Pat ’68, were eager to support the project. They previously supported a landscape architecture scholarship and general funding for the Department of English, where Patricia earned her K-State degree. But the Seaton Complex held “special interest” for the couple, according to Kipp.

The couple decided to name two design studios — the Pat and Kipp Shrack, FASLA Studio and the LDR International (1969-2000) Studio. The latter naming is in honor of the company where Kipp was a partner for 30 years before retiring in 2005, following LDR’s 2000 acquisition by HNTB in Kansas City, Missouri.

Kipp, a multi-generation K-Stater, has been honored as a fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects and a fellow of the K-State College of Architecture, Planning & Design. He credits K-State with the solid footing he received to begin his successful career and now he hopes to help today’s students in a similar way.

“I am recently very impressed with the ideas that Dean Tim de Noble has implemented in the college to carry forward a long history of excellence in the professions,” Kipp said. “We hope our gifts will create a dynamic environment for future students to interact.”

Gifts like these are key to advancing the Innovation and Inspiration Campaign and the goals of K-State 2025.
