“Bluemont has windows!”
That repeated exclamation rang out across campus when the College of Education unveiled its recent renovations. For generations of K-Staters who studied there, Bluemont Hall was known for its windowless classrooms where the phrase “let there be light” meant turning on the overhead fluorescents. But with the renovation, it means let the sunshine in.
The $3.7 million upgrade — funded substantially by donors — features:
• A modern and inviting “front door,” featuring a wall of windows.
• Renovated classrooms with updated technology and collaborative seating.
• A robust student services area for academic advising and recruiting prospective students.
“This renovation helps position the College of Education for the future,” said Debbie Mercer, dean of the college. “It’s K-State’s visible commitment to strengthen the College of Education as we create innovative programs that bring additional qualified educators into classrooms.”
Now, when EDCats gather to collaborate in the vibrant lobby area, they’ll do so with a view of the Bluemont Bell and the promise of ringing it upon graduation.
