Hear from four students about how sharing their story — and listening to others’ stories — improved their K-State experience
Colton Wallace
Hometown: Mound City, Kansas
Major: Finance
“A sense of belonging is one of the most important feelings someone can have. Ultimately, if you don’t know the purpose of your life, you risk misusing it or missing out on opportunities. If you know what you’re here for, that takes away the potential for regrets.”
Antoinette Dadzi
Hometown: Bogoso, Ghana
Major: Biology/pre-med
“People from diverse backgrounds have unique experiences and challenges, but we’re not alone in this challenging transition to college life. People don’t know me and I don’t know them, but if we open up and share our stories, we can understand and support each other. That’s what I’m going to do for everybody here.”
Dyani Anand
Hometown: Overland Park, Kansas
Major: Biology/pre-vet
“Finding out you have at least one thing in common with a complete stranger is a great experience. I love meeting new people, and one thing we all have in common is that we’re all trying to find where we belong — our community.”
Jessie Lewis
Hometown: Junction City, Kansas
Major: Computer science and Spanish
“The worst day of Comic-Con is better than the best day of work! There’s a kind of vigor being with people who have the same interests as you and who understand your mindset. I found a lot of inspiration from other people’s stories at Wildcat Dialogues, but it’s important to tell your own story, too. There’s an inherent connection between all our stories.”
