Alan and Jan Levin invest in the naming of the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Kansas State University
Alan and Jan Levin of Tucson, Arizona, have invested in the naming of the Alan Levin Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering in the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering at Kansas State University.
This investment will empower the department to recruit and retain top faculty, support deserving students and provide flexible funding for department leaders to take advantage of emerging opportunities.
“Engineering education in the 21st century is a competitive and vigorous endeavor, requiring extraordinary measures to equip and train tomorrow’s leaders and innovators in this field,” said Darren Dawson, dean of the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering. “Alan and Jan understand this dynamic and have stepped forward with exceptional generosity to meet these needs — how fitting the department will now bear the Levin name.”
Alan Levin earned his degree in mechanical engineering from K-State in 1969. In 2014, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame, the highest honor bestowed by the college. The Alan and Jan Levin family were honored as the 2015 Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals: Southern Arizona Chapter.
“The College of Engineering at Kansas State University looked beyond my academic record and saw the possibility in me,” Alan said. “My time in mechanical engineering classes and the well-rounded curriculum gave me the ability to take advantage of opportunities and the tools to excel. I knew K-State would use our investment to better the education and lives of engineering students. In addition to helping the college continue to grow and impact students’ lives, this gift, which includes scholarship support, will enable the college to provide additional resources to students who could benefit from the same opportunities I did.”
A gift of this magnitude is truly transformational for the college and the university as a whole.
“Alan and Jan Levin exemplify the generosity of the K-State family,” said K-State President Richard Myers. “Their investment in the success of Carl R. Ice College of Engineering faculty, students and programs not only elevates the college but brings prestige to the university and helps propel K-State toward being nationally recognized as a top 50 public research university.”
