K-State Proud, the first ever all-university, student-led campaign at Kansas State University, is back for its ninth year of students helping students. Students, faculty, staff and members of the community are encouraged to stop by the information table in the K-State Student Union this week to make a $20 donation and receive this year’s K-State Proud T-shirt.
For many students, K-State Proud is more than a T-shirt — it’s a meaningful way to connect with the K-State community and give back.
“K-State Proud truly reflects our motto, ‘students helping students,’” said Eleanor Dickens, the 2015 K-State Proud campaign chair. “It means that our student body can come together and help a peer who has been struggling to get back on their feet. It means that in the midst of all the terrible things we hear about on the news, we can make someone’s world brighter — one T-shirt at a time.”
The nationally recognized campaign has raised $833,000 and made more than 425 Student Opportunity Awards since it started. These awards are allotted by a student allocations committee in consultation with the university’s student financial assistance office to provide financial aid for students who have demonstrated extreme financial need or those who need temporary financial assistance. Special consideration will be given to students whose future at the university may be in jeopardy and to students who have exhausted all other forms of financial assistance.
“The willingness of K-State students to help fellow students in a time of need says a lot about our family spirit,” said Amy Button Renz, President and CEO of the K-State Alumni Association and this year’s K-State Proud honorary chair. “I’m proud to support such a worthy cause and I appreciate the dedication of the outstanding student leaders of the K-State Proud campaign.”
The campus community is invited to visit the K-State Proud booth in the Union every day this week between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to make a donation, receive a free T-shirt and enjoy the following activities:
