K-State Finance Scholar explores Abu Dhabi’s evolving financial landscape and discovers the value of global connection
Abu Dhabi blends rich cultural heritage with rapid economic transformation as it continues to grow as a hub for finance, technology and global business. This makes it a great destination for finance majors wanting to study abroad.
One of those students, Charlie DeZube, shares his experience in Abu Dhabi and the impact it had on him.
What were you doing in Abu Dhabi?
“I traveled to Abu Dhabi with the K-State Finance Scholars Program for an immersive, finance-focused experience. I met with organizations such as the American Chamber of Commerce, Albourne and the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange to learn about the region’s capital markets and business environment. I also visited cultural landmarks to better understand the local culture and history.”
What did an average day look like for you there?
“Most days started with traveling to scheduled site visits and meetings. Between sessions, we would break for lunch at local restaurants and use that time to debrief and connect as a group. Afternoons typically included additional meetings, followed by cultural excursions in the evening.”
What meaningful experiences did you have?
“I enjoyed learning directly from professionals about Abu Dhabi’s financial ecosystem and seeing the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in person. It was fascinating to see how quickly you can connect with people across different backgrounds when you lead with curiosity and respect.”
How did the experience impact you?
“It strengthened my appreciation for different cultures and perspectives and made me more confident stepping into unfamiliar environments. It also reinforced my interest in working in fast-growing, globally connected markets where relationship management and clear communication matters.
I’m very grateful for the opportunity. It was both professionally valuable and personally meaningful, and it reinforced the importance of learning through direct exposure and conversation.”
