K-State celebrates opening of Berney Family Welcome Center.
Kansas State University leaders gathered Nov. 4 to celebrate the opening of the Berney Family Welcome Center with the students who will benefit from the facility and the donors who made it possible.
The center positions the university as a national leader with one central location for student success at the beginning and end of their college careers. This unique facility, in the revitalized Memorial Stadium, is a tangible expression of Kansas State University’s model of “putting students first.”
Construction on the Berney Family Welcome Center began in January 2015. It has 25 interview rooms that allow prospective students to meet with admissions representatives during their personalized university visit, as well as a professional environment for Career Center staff to host employers who are interviewing students for internships and full-time employment. Interactive technology offers customized information on campus wayfinding, academics, student life and support services.
The Berney Family Welcome Center was entirely funded through philanthropic gifts from generous individuals and corporations. It is named in recognition of the capital gift commitment made by Rand and Patti Berney, Round Rock, Texas, to advance the university, including their lead gift to the Welcome Center.
“We are so grateful to the alumni and friends who made this possible, and for the inspirational vision of Rand and Patti Berney,” said Pat Bosco, vice president for student life and dean of students. “This facility, in the fully transformed east side of the historic Memorial Stadium, will serve our current and future students, their families, and staff for many generations to come.”
