K-State alum uses scholarships to cement his success and to help others
Scholarships have helped many students alleviate the financial burden of paying for college during their time at K-State. For alumnus Dr. Paul W. Dlabal, scholarships not only helped him financially during his time at K-State, but they also helped shape the path Paul would walk to this very day. “The financial support which I received from scholarships while at K-State was important,” said Paul. “However, the most gratifying benefit came from the recognition itself, and confirmation that I was on the right path.”
Motivated and driven by the K-State scholarships he received, Paul pursued a career in the medical field and parlayed that into his current role as president of Cardiovascular Research Associates, P.A., in Austin, Texas, providing medical research in cardiology, while offering patient care to prevent heart disease. Through the years, Paul never forgot his Wildcat roots and has supported K-State by creating scholarships. “I will always remember how the scholarships I received from K-State helped motivate me to pursue my academic goals, and later, to give back,” Paul said.
“Currently I have established two scholarships at K-State, the Meyers scholarship and the Paul W. Dlabal, M.D. scholarship. I created the Hilda and E.E. Myers scholarship for arts and sciences honor students to further their academic careers and give them the recognition of a prestigious scholarship. In this way, I wanted to honor Mr. and Mrs. Meyers who were most supportive and encouraging “house parents” to me and other students residing in their rooming house in Manhattan. In addition, we are now funding the Paul W. Dlabal, M.D. Arts and Sciences Honors Scholarship at K-State which is designed to assist arts and sciences honor students in pursuing independent research suitable for presentation or publication.”
