Helping students find their passions

Rex and Fran Beach establish a scholarship for the College of Arts and Sciences as part of the K-State Family Scholarship match program.

Rex Beach, Kansas State University alumnus, aspired to give back to the university after receiving numerous opportunities as a student, such as studying abroad, playing for K-State’s basketball team, meeting his future wife and discovering new passions. To show appreciation, Rex and his wife, Fran, contributed to the K-State Family Scholarship match program.

“I was inspired to donate primarily because of my great appreciation and gratitude for the invaluable education I received at Kansas State University,” Rex said. “All these good things happened because of K-State and the education and opportunities I received during my time in Manhattan.”

With the K-State Family Scholarship Program, new gifts of $30,000 are matched with $30,000 from the seed fund, for a total of $60,000. $10,000 goes into an expendable fund, making $2,000 scholarships available to be awarded to students immediately. The remaining $50,000 goes into the endowment, ensuring future generations of Wildcats will receive scholarships as well.

Rex graduated from K-State in 1962 with a degree in economics. As part of the K-State Family Scholarship match program, Rex and Fran established a scholarship for students in the College of Arts and Sciences.

“I am very grateful for my great good fortune as a K-State student and graduate, and hope to help others as they enter these brave new worlds and attempt to find their passion and pace,” Rex said.

In addition to giving back, Rex and Fran wanted to relieve financial burdens for current and future K-State students.

“I hope the contribution helps one or more financially strapped students, who have the determination to expand their horizons and make a positive mark on all of those around them,” Rex said. “I hope students gain some freedom from financial anxiety and devote more time to reaping the benefits of a great university.”
