Fueling Collaboration

Teamwork, collaboration inspire alumni support of Phase IV

Jim Coen understands the value of teamwork. That’s why the Wichita, Kansas, native is supporting the Phase IV engineering expansion at K-State.

His naming of the Coen Family Collaboration Teaming Room is a tribute to his days on campus as a civil engineering student competing with the school’s Concrete Canoe Team.

“Some of my favorite memories are gathering with other students in the engineering conference room to work and study together,” he said. “The ability to work with other people and collaborate is critical to the workplace.”

Now vice president of MV Purchasing energy logistics company, Coen said supporting the 108,000-square-foot addition to the Durland-Rathbone-Fiedler complex was a logical next step in his philanthropic plan for K-State.

“I was looking for a way to contribute beyond the scholarship I endowed,” he said. “It was a natural fit to contribute to Phase IV.”
